Our dog required tapeworm treatment and documents signing, in preparation to enter the UK. We saw Dr Patrick. He seemed to be a very caring and attentive professional. We thought he was great in his limited dealings with both our doggy and with us. The reception staff were all delightful. It made a lovely change from what we are accustomed to in London, where we find it very challenging to trust our primary vets and rarely leave without some resulting financial hardship!. Vondelpark is in a premium district of Amsterdam and this clinic, no doubt, will keep the fussiest of pets and owners happy. Their pricing is fair and the service we received was excellent. Thank you so much Team Dierenkliniek.

Everything is perfect. Very correct and very friendly staff. They have never disappointed me and have always helped my pet. This has been the case for three years and I hope it will continue for a very long time. Thank you for being there.

We relocated from India to the Netherlands with our rottie and came across Dierenkliniek. Dr. Patrick and the entire team are too good. This has become our go-to place for any of our baby's problems. Highly recommend it.

Our experience was, unfortunately, quite disappointing — and I feel it’s important to share this, not out of frustration, but in the hope that the clinic reflects seriously on some aspects of its staffing and service.

One of the most concerning moments was when a young, clearly inexperienced staff member attempted to draw blood from our dog. After four failed attempts and visible distress in our dog, we had to insist that a more experienced professional step in — who completed the task quickly and smoothly. This level of inexperience in such a critical procedure is not only unsettling for the animal but also deeply distressing for the owners.

To be fair, around 40% of the veterinarians we’ve encountered here have been great — competent and clearly knowledgeable. However, the inconsistency in the quality of care is worrying. If you are building a reputable clinic, quality must come before quantity. Hiring underqualified staff may save time or fill schedules, but it will ultimately damage your reputation — and worse, it can put animals at risk.

Another example: one vet advised us to feed our dog bananas in order to raise his potassium — despite the fact that our dog already has disease, which involves high potassium levels. So she clearly confused everything. And while this may seem like a small mistake, in a fragile medical situation, it would make things worse. Advice like this cannot be brushed off as minor.

Furthermore, after receiving a call from the clinic stating that our dog’s test results were fine and that no adjustment to his prednisone dosage was needed, we asked the doctor to reviewed the report ourselves. The lab report included a clear note: “Monocytosis – consider inflammation (if lymphopenia is absent, consider glucocorticoid response).” And lymphopenia was present — yet this was completely overlooked. This raises a serious concern: if a clinic (as this doctors are representing it) cannot correctly interpret lab results or communicate accurate information to clients, what confidence can we have in their medical decisions.

I understand the veterinary field is understaffed and demanding — but the solution cannot be to lower the bar. For the sake of the animals and the trust of the clients, I sincerely advise Dierenkliniek Vondelpark to reconsider its hiring and training standards. A few wrong hires can undo the hard work of your best professionals.

This review isn’t meant to attack, but to give honest feedback — and I know I’m not alone, as others have shared similar concerns in their reviews. I sincerely hope this will be taken as constructive criticism — because the clinic has potential, but it needs to protect that potential with better choices.

—— An answer to Dierenkliniek Vondelpark feedback:

Thank you for your response. As mentioned before, this is not about us “not knowing what to do next.” The point is to highlight that your clinic should ensure all veterinarians are capable of performing essential procedures, such as drawing blood. And not recommending potassium-rich foods in order to cure Addissons. This kind of advice suggests a lack of understanding of the condition, which is concerning when it comes to the health and safety of pets in your care.

Our feedback is not personal—it’s about the quality of veterinary care and ensuring that future clients don’t face similar issues. You can choose to take this feedback seriously, reflect on it, and improve, or dismiss it and continue responding as if the problem lies with the clients rather than acknowledging room for improvement.

A genuine apology and a willingness to do better would go a lot further in reassuring pet owners that their animals are in safe, knowledgeable hands.
